Our move date is two weeks from today. Although we're looking foward to our new house in town, we will miss living out here in farm country. This is truly a singular place, where pasture, hill, forest, and sea come together in one charmed locale.
Our upstairs window looks up a steep and lush green hillside, daubed with dark evergreens and bushes of yellow and pink. The roosters announce the start of the day, as well as many follow-up increments. Chickens waddle the yard pecking and gossiping. Finches flutter past and sing. Cows low in a distant field. A lamb in the next yard baaas and follows the cat across the grass. Steam trains whistle and roar past. The little boys next door roam their domain shouting and seeking adventure. Their yard is a nation, and their willow a castle. They peep from the branches at invaders and then charge them with garden hoes.
Many of the residents are very attentive to their yards, gardens, and entryways.
Most have livestock of some type.
And many sell eggs.
Someone moved into an old church.
And we even have an alien.
This is truly a place where all can feel comfortable and welcome.
Warrington, we'll miss you!
