You may recall Jeremy's epic adventure this February to mind kakapo nests on Codfish Island. He was recently thrilled to receive a personal invitation down to Invercargill, where Dept. of Conservation employees were raising some of the season's weaker hatchlings in a special facility.
So, one evening, Jeremy and I drove the three hours south, had dinner in town, and then met Rangers Jason and Ruth at the DoC facility in time for the chicks' feeding.
As you can see, in just two months, the chicks look like adults.

The nibble turns into a real chomp. (No doctor visit was required for this one, despite the dramatic outcry.)
We enjoyed our comfy quarantine suits while in the pen area.

When the chicks are strong and ready, they'll be off to Codfish Island, to rejoin the gang.
